RCT is a community based charity that works with young people with the aim of putting their lives back on track by offering practical and emotional support.
The Charity was started by a group of Rochdale Youth Magistrates in 1998 who noticed that many young people appearing before the Court, did not have a school to attend. This often led to exclusion from society in general and a loss of self-esteem and self-worth on the part of the young person.
RCT's aims are to connect young people with adults who can help them return to education and training, but even more importantly, perhaps to raise their individual self-worth and confidence which will lead to inclusion rather than exclusion.
We work with young people aged 11 - 19 who for one reason or another are disaffected, disillusioned and socially excluded.
They are often young offenders, excluded from school, experimenting with drugs and alcohol or experiencing family relationship problems. They are on the "outside", often believing they deserve to be on the outside.
Our job is to help include rather than exclude these young people.
We receive referrals from all agencies dealing with young people, e.g. Social Services, Connexions, the Youth Service, The Youth Offending Team, Educational Welfare officers, but crucially we are now receiving referrals from families and young people themselves.

The quality of the service provided from the voluntary mentors of RCT is underpinned by the qualification they take. This is provided by their own training division - RCT Training.
