At RCT we are proud to be launching a ”Communities Against Harm from Gambling” funded service to provide supportive interventions for those individuals affected by problem gambling and for those living with family members who are engaged in problem gambling.
Over half the population has participated in some form of gambling in the past year. Gambling is often portrayed as a leisure activity however can cause harm for those who are experiencing or are at risk of a gambling addiction. In Rochdale we are starting to think differently about gambling by working to prevent and reduce the negative impacts of gambling on individuals, families and communities. Harms associated with gambling include mental ill health, relationship breakdown, poor performance at work or school and financial difficulties. These harms may be experienced by the person who gambles or by family, friends and colleagues of someone who gambles. Harms can accrue very quickly, but we know that recovery can take a long time. |
