Healthy Relationships
"BEST LIFE"
We have developed " Best Life " in response to concerns expressed by schools relating to their awareness of the growing issue of unhealthy, disrespectful relationships amongst young people.

It is designed to raise awareness and understanding in young people in Years 9 and 10 around Domestic Abuse. This can be tailored for other year groups. The course is 15 weeks and delivered in the school environment. The aim of the programme is to offer valuable information to young people around healthy relationships, to improve self-esteem, self-awareness, awareness of others and better relationship choices for the youths of the borough. Young people will be identified by the school, commencing with those who are most vulnerable, at risk or already showing signs of unhealthy relationships.

Each week will include a mixture of information delivery, interactive activities and discussions.

We look at topics such as sexting and online safety, domestic abuse, consent and social media.

With a focus on what constitutes controlling or abusive behaviour we hope to empower young people to reject future relationships where these identified behaviour traits are visible.

This programme is currently delivering in several schools across the Rochdale Borough.

In consultation with schools and the Pastoral teams, the programme now includes the following;
  • Week 1: What is a Healthy Relationship?
  • Week 2: Consent & Communication.
  • Week 3: Domestic Abuse.
  • Week 4: Relational Abuse.
  • Week 5: What is a Healthy & Respectful Relationship?
  • Week 6: Pornography and Nudes.
  • Week 7: A Safe Break-Up.
  • Week 8: Social Media and Online Safety.
  • Week 9: Emotional and Behavioural.
  • Week 10: Feeling Safe.
  • Week 11: Healthy Boundaries and Grooming.
  • Week 12: Managing Conflict and Fair Fighting Rules.
  • Week 13: LGBTQIA.
  • Week 14: Self-Esteem.
  • Week 15: Full Recap.

PROGRAMME FEEDBACK

Mrs C Flitcroft- Safeguarding Lead

“I would like to say the students have shared they are enjoying the sessions and speak very highly and positive of you and your colleague. They really do appear to be getting a lot of support from the sessions so far which again is positive.”

Young Person Feedback

“I really love coming to this session, it’s great!”  the team feel that was as much to do with their style of delivery and mutual respect as well as the content. They are all so relaxed and open in the session which shows how comfortable they are with the team.

After covering consent and communication one young person stated “I feel so much more confident to say no now. It’s given me confidence.”

"I am genuinely really enjoying it and looking forward to the upcoming weeks. I wanted to know how long was left and was very keen to be a part of it. I think everyone else in the group had the same feelings as me."

"One of the best bits of todays session was the role plays. "
