Mentoring is a positive learning relationship between two people. We ask mentors to develop a supportive on-going relationship with an aim of empowering young people by building their confidence and self-esteem. We are constantly looking for people who have the ability to listen and feel they can develop a positive rapport with a young person in an honest challenging and non-judgmental way. All the young people with whom we deal have felt excluded in one way or another. Mentors aim to "include" people by providing support, advice and encouragement in a consistent manner.
All prospective mentors will have to undergo a period of accredited training, equivalent to NVQ level 2, concentrated on such issues as child protection, equal opportunities, drug awareness and sexual health. Of greater importance - they will learn more about themselves.
" . . .Having the chance to work with RCT has literally changed the course of my life and not only that, my whole outlook on life." mentor's quote
The quality of the service provided from the voluntary mentors of RCT is underpinned by the qualification they take. This is provided by RCT's own training division - RCT Training.
