25 years after opening our doors the Charity is at the heart of the diverse local communities of Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and The Pennines townships, particularly those with greatest need. We are trusted by the residents, we know our communities, and understand the complexity of the issues being faced and developing as an organisation, helping us to meet changing social, health, and wellbeing needs.
WHERE WE STARTED
We were founded in 1997 by a group of local Youth Court Magistrates concerned by the number of young people being presented to them who were not engaging with their education whilst having little or no family support. After working with the young people, they realised that for their support offer to be the most effective they needed to take a whole family approach. To achieve this, they employed key workers to offer supportive mentoring and interventions based off needs identified for the individual family. Volunteer Mentors were then recruited and trained to provide continuing support to the clients and their families.
RCT TODAY
We remain entirely committed to our core work with vulnerable, disadvantaged children, young people, and their families, delivering intense, supportive interventions including mentoring support, group work and 1:1 session; in addition to dedicated work with the family. Our support is tailored to the specific family and designed to keep them engaged.
