The Haven Project is a peer support group for females who have experienced, or are currently in a domestic abuse relationship, and was created to provide women with a safe, friendly, and non-judgmental environment to talk and be themselves.
The programme focuses on enabling women to manage their mental wellbeing and general health, recognise signs of domestic violence or abuse, and learn how to stay safe.
Sessions include knowledge building, art, and fun games to help women to build friendships and learn new skills.

The Haven Project is dedicated to empowering our participants and opening doors to new experiences they might not otherwise have. Our supportive, welcoming environment encourages everyone to try new things, learn, and grow together.
We’re proud to collaborate with other organisations who bring their expertise to our sessions. For example, Living Well has delivered engaging short courses on topics such as Defib & CPR, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, Eating Well, Assertiveness, and Sleeping Well. Daisy from ELP has also provided valuable resilience training to our group. Our sessions are varied and interactive. Some of our cooking workshops are themed around national events—like making pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. We also host film nights, as well as beauty and pampering sessions, offering something for everyone. Our group has enjoyed exciting opportunities beyond our regular meetings, including a visit to Brussels to tour the EU Commission and European Parliament. Currently, we’re collaborating with a local artist to create unique ‘Story Veils,’ celebrating our shared experiences and creativity. At The Haven Project, there’s always something new to discover, and a supportive community to share it with. |
CASE STUDY
Rebuilding Family Connections: A Haven Success Story
When one of our Haven attendees first joined us, she was facing significant challenges. Due to the parental conflict and domestic abuse, her children had been removed from her care, and she was only able to see them during supervised contact sessions.
Through her regular participation in Haven and with the dedicated support of RCT, her situation began to improve. RCT provided practical assistance, such as collecting her children and bringing them to RCT for contact sessions. Over time, this support helped her progress from supervised visits to unsupervised contact twice a week. She was also able to maintain regular phone contact, and discussions began about the possibility of overnight stays.
These positive changes allowed her to rebuild and strengthen her family relationships. Together, they enjoyed cooking meals at RCT, watching television, listening to music, and playing games—creating cherished moments and fostering a sense of normalcy and togetherness, allowing them to move forwards.
This inspiring journey highlights the transformative impact of supportive community services in helping families heal and thrive.
